HAGERDORN, Karl
Hagedorn was born in Berlin in 1889 and settled inEngland in 1905. He studied at Manchester School of Technology, Slade and Paris. The influence awarded Hagedorn the title 'Manchester's first Modernist' before his work settled and became more conventional. This latter style proved commercially popular and Hagedorn had successful exhibitions at Whitworth Art Gallery, Fine Art Society, NEAC and Chris Beetles. He did a fair amount of commercial work for such clents as Empire Marketing Board, Shell and Radio Times. He is well represented in numerous public collections including the British Museum, V&A and Manchester City Art Gallery. Hagedorn died in 1969 and the Hagedorn Trust exists to enhance this gifted artist's reputation.
