James Neal was born in 1918 in London. He studied at St Martin's School of Art and RCA and regularly showed at the RA, RSA, NEAC and Redfern. During the 1950s he was a founder member of the Avenues Group. He had solo shows at Wildenstein and Ferens. Represented in numerous public collections. His style is hugely experimental working with mixed media and textured papers. Although personal his styke resonnates John Piper, Paul Nash and Christopher Wood.
