Born in 1914, La Dell studied at Sheffield College and later at the RCA under Gilbert Spencer and Barnett Freedman. The influence of both these teachers is evident in the use of flat colours overlaid to convey a sense of design combined with an interest in atmospheric effects. His career developed to be Head of Printmaking at the RCA. He died in 1970.
